Jio Platforms has entered the Indian stock market with a strong opening, giving investors a notable premium on the first day of trading. The telecom and digital services company, backed by Reliance Industries, listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on October 28.
The shares began trading at ₹1,358 apiece, compared with the final IPO price of ₹1,119. This represents a gain of approximately 21.36% for investors who received shares in the public offering.
The debut also pushed Jio Platforms’ market capitalisation beyond ₹12.5 lakh crore, placing it among India’s most valuable listed companies.
Jio IPO Attracted Strong Investor Demand
The public offering raised ₹30,213 crore, making it India’s largest IPO at the time of listing. Investor interest remained strong throughout the subscription period, with the issue receiving bids for approximately 22.19 times the number of shares available.

Institutional investors drove much of the demand. The qualified institutional buyers (QIB) category was subscribed 70.55 times its allotted portion. Meanwhile, the non-institutional investor segment recorded 14 times subscription, while the retail investor category was subscribed 2.72 times.
These figures reflected substantial demand ahead of the company’s entry into the public markets, although subscription levels alone do not determine how a stock will perform after listing.
How Much Did Jio Shares Gain on Listing Day?
With the opening price at ₹1,358 against the issue price of ₹1,119, the difference works out to ₹239 per share.
For investors allotted one minimum lot of 12 shares, the figures translate into the following indicative comparison:
- IPO investment: ₹13,428
- Value at the opening price: ₹16,296
- Difference: ₹2,868
- Listing gain: Approximately 21.36%
These figures are based on the opening price and exclude applicable taxes, charges and other costs. Actual returns depend on the price at which an investor sells the shares.
What Makes Jio Platforms Important to the Market?
Jio Platforms operates across telecommunications and digital services through its businesses and associated offerings. Its scale, customer base and position within the Reliance Industries group have made it a closely watched company among investors.
The listing gives public-market investors a direct opportunity to participate in the company’s future performance. At the same time, its valuation means investors will be watching business growth, profitability, competition and the company’s ability to sustain its market position.
A strong first-day opening is an important milestone, but it does not guarantee similar gains in subsequent trading sessions.
What Should Investors Watch After the Listing?
Following the debut, attention is likely to shift towards trading volumes, price movements and the company’s financial performance. Investors will also assess whether market expectations are supported by its earnings growth and longer-term business prospects.
The broader market environment may influence the stock as well. Changes in investor sentiment, competition in the telecom sector and future business developments could all affect its performance.
Jio Platforms’ listing marks a significant event for India’s primary market. While the initial premium rewarded successful IPO allottees at the opening price, the stock’s longer-term performance will depend on how the business develops and how investors value its future prospects.
