India Create ODI History With 300 Runs Under 30 Overs

India ODI history

India scripted a remarkable chapter in ODI cricket during their second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on September 30. Led by Shubman Gill, India chased down a huge target of 406 runs in just 43.3 overs, winning the match by eight wickets and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The match also produced a unique ODI landmark as India became the first team to reach 300 runs in fewer than 30 overs. India achieved the milestone in just 175 balls, surpassing South Africa’s previous mark of reaching 300 in 194 balls against Australia in 2006.

Shubman Gill Leads Record-Breaking Chase

Shubman Gill was at the centre of India’s spectacular chase. The captain smashed an unbeaten 233 off 133 deliveries, including 26 fours and eight sixes. His double century came in only 116 balls, making it the fastest double century in men’s ODI cricket, surpassing Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls. Rohit Sharma also played a major role, scoring 101 from 75 balls. His century was his 35th in ODI cricket, while he also became only the seventh batter to reach 12,000 runs in the format. He joined Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the third Indian to achieve the landmark.

West Indies Post Record ODI Total

Earlier, West Indies produced a huge total of 405/7 in their 50 overs, their highest-ever ODI score. However, India’s aggressive batting response turned the contest into a record-breaking run chase. The match produced 811 runs in total, making it the third-highest aggregate in an ODI.

India’s successful chase of 406 was also the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history. India’s victory extended their winning streak against the West Indies to 14 consecutive ODI series. With another record-filled performance in Guwahati, the Indian team added yet another significant milestone to its ODI history.
