Round 2 of medical and dental counselling is done in Punjab, and hundreds of seats are still sitting empty. Revised seat matrices from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), released Monday, put the number of vacant MBBS and BDS seats at 808. The NRI quota accounts for 389 of them, nearly half.
MBBS Seats: 307 Vacancies Across Punjab
The revised MBBS seat matrix lists 307 vacant seats across 12 government and private medical colleges, out of a total of 1,800 seats. Around 209 vacancies are in seven private colleges, while government institutions account for 98.
NRI seats make up a significant share of the vacant MBBS positions, with 175 seats still unfilled. Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot has 51 vacant MBBS seats, including 38 under the NRI category. Meanwhile, ESIC Medical College in Ludhiana has reported no vacant seats. Among private colleges, Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Bathinda has 46 vacant seats, followed by Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar with 43 and Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences in Jalandhar with 35.
BDS Vacancies Also Remain High
The BDS seat matrix shows 501 vacant seats across 17 dental colleges, including 214 NRI quota seats. RIMT Dental College in Mandi Gobindgarh has 46 vacancies, while Sri Sukhmani Dental College in Dera Bassi has 45. Desh Bhagat Dental College has 43 vacant seats, while Guru Nanak Dev Dental College and Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences have 42 each. For the upcoming third counselling round, the BFUHS willingness list includes 1,629 candidates. The vacant-seat figures and candidate list will therefore remain important for students looking for MBBS and BDS admission opportunities in Punjab.
