Security forces on Monday used tear gas shells and carried out a lathicharge to disperse thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who gathered in Delhi for the party’s “Chalo Sansad” march on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The protest went ahead despite Delhi Police denying permission for the march and imposing prohibitory orders across parts of the national capital.

Supporters, largely comprising students and youngsters, assembled at Jantar Mantar to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. As protesters attempted to march towards Parliament, security personnel stopped them at multiple barricades. According to police, some protesters allegedly tried to breach the barricades, leading to clashes in which both protesters and police personnel sustained minor injuries.
To disperse the crowd, police used tear gas shells and batons. As a precautionary measure, mobile internet services were also suspended in parts of Central Delhi.
Meanwhile, the CJP appealed to its supporters to maintain peace throughout the protest.
“Even if you’ve been stopped at certain points, remain calm and maintain peace. We will only win this with peace and love,” the party said in a message to its supporters.
Delhi Police reiterated that permission for the march had been denied on Sunday and warned that legal action would be taken against anyone violating the prohibitory orders. The force also appealed to citizens not to participate in any unauthorised gathering and to cooperate in maintaining public order.
