After nearly seven years of marriage, reality TV star Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her ex, rapper Kanye West, several sources said on Friday.
The couple, who got married in May 2014 at a luxurious wedding in Italy, has been plagued for months by rumors in the gossip press that their relationship was on the rocks.
TMZ’s celebrity website quoted anonymous sources as saying that the divorce was amicable and that Kardashian had demanded joint custody of the four children of the pair. The grounds of the divorce were not understood immediately.
West’s reps did not answer a call for comment immediately.
In 2012, West and Kardashian began dating and took the big Italian plunge.
Although Kardashian first achieved success in 2007 with Keeping Up With Kardashians, a reality TV show that lasted for 20 seasons focused on her family, West has been one of the most popular names in the rap industry for decades.
Via her TV shows, as a social media influencer, and by creating a lucrative line of makeup and foundation clothing, Kardashian, who is studying to be a social justice lawyer, made her money.
After a brief marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries and music producer Damon Thomas, the marriage was the first for West and the third for Kardashian.
