The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a proposal to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday. The decision was disclosed following a Cabinet meeting in Lucknow, with the state government linking the move to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to the development of Uttar Pradesh and the country. Adityanath said the Cabinet expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the airport, which is expected to become a major aviation hub.
The proposed name change comes as the airport emerges as a significant infrastructure project for the National Capital Region (NCR). Located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the airport is expected to improve regional air connectivity, support tourism and encourage economic activity. Its development is also intended to ease pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport as passenger traffic across the region continues to grow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of Noida International Airport on March 28, 2026, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure. The first phase was developed with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore and is designed to handle around 12 million passengers annually. With further expansion planned, the airport is expected to strengthen connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh and the wider NCR. The proposed renaming places the project in the spotlight as the state government continues to promote large-scale infrastructure development.
