On Thursday, the first-look images for Camila Cabello’s new musical ‘Cinderella,’ which will premiere on Amazon Prime in September, were posted. It starred the 24-year-old pop star in two scenes from Kay Cannon’s fairy-tale adaptation.
Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Billy Porter, Pierce Brosnan, James Corden, John Mulaney, Charlotte Spencer, Maddie Baillio, and Romesh Ranganathan star alongside Cabello and Galitzine in the film, which is written and directed by Kay Cannon.
“Cinderella,” a musically-driven modern take on the traditional fairytale, features pop songs by contemporary global artists as well as original songs by Cabello and Menzel. Cinderella is a determined young woman with ambitions that are greater than the world will allow, but she is able to achieve her goals with the help of her Fab G (Porter).
However, neither appears in the first stills, which concentrate on Cabello’s Cinderella. The first appears to see our young heroine in the middle of a musical number, creating what we can only presume is a ball gown.
“‘Cinderella’ is a classic we all know and love, but this time with a modern unique twist and starring the sensational Camila Cabello and an all-star cast,” said the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke. “Producer James Corden and the filmmaking team have taken this beloved fairytale and revamped it with a fresh, empowering perspective that will resonate with audiences and families around the world. We couldn’t be more excited for our global customers to sing and dance along to director Kay Cannon’s reimagination of this classic story.”
