OpenAI has announced the rollout of its new ChatGPT Health Feature, designed to help users better understand their medical information. Called “Health in ChatGPT,” the feature allows users to connect medical records, hospital documents and health data with ChatGPT for more personalised responses.
The feature can help explain medical reports, interpret lab test results and simplify complex information into easier language. Users may also be able to compare newer test results with older reports and prepare questions before consulting a doctor.
At present, the feature is available to users aged 18 and above in the United States. It can be accessed through the web and iPhone, and is being offered to users across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans.
ChatGPT Health Feature Can Connect With Apple Health Data
One of the key features of the update is its ability to work with Apple Health data. Users with an iPhone or Apple Watch can potentially connect information related to sleep, exercise, walking and other health metrics. Data shared with Apple Health by compatible fitness and nutrition apps may also be used to provide broader context.
OpenAI has stressed that the feature is not intended to replace doctors or provide definitive medical treatment. Instead, it is designed to help people understand their health information and prepare for conversations with medical professionals.
Privacy is another major focus of the ChatGPT Health Feature. OpenAI says health records and Apple Health data will be kept separately protected and will not be used to train its AI models or serve advertisements. Users will also have control over when and in which conversations their health information is used.
The launch comes amid growing discussions about the risks of relying on artificial intelligence for medical decisions. OpenAI has therefore reiterated that ChatGPT should be treated as an informational tool, while diagnosis and treatment decisions should always be made with qualified medical professionals.
