The court rejected the anticipatory bail application of Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar in the murder case

Sushil Kumar, India’s double Olympic wrestling medalist, was denied anticipatory bail by the court on Tuesday in connection with a brawl at Chhatrasal Stadium that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old wrestler.

Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing Sushil Kumar, argued that since the bullets were fired in the air, there was no case of murder. “The most important thing is that, according to their status report, Section 302 (murder charges) has been invoked. The goal was not to kill if the shots were fired in the air. As a result, 302 cannot be used “Siddharth Luthra expressed his views. Luthra also claims that the police’s response is incomplete and neglects key details.

Fearing arrest, Kumar applied for anticipatory bail at the Rohini court in Delhi on May 17, claiming that the investigation into his case is biased and that he is not responsible for any injuries caused.

The prosecution’s seizure of Sushil Kumar’s passport was also challenged by Luthra. “I (Sushil Kumar) am an Arjuna Awardee, and I have also won many Olympic medals,” he continued.

Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, who represents the accused, told the court that no custodial questioning of his client is necessary because the police have recovered everything, including the car, weapon, and stick.

In response to Sushil Kumar’s attorney’s arguments, Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava claimed, “There are several grounds to detain him. The other accused (Sonu and another) were staying in Sushil’s wife’s apartment.”

Kumar has been on the run since a FIR was filed against him at Model Town police station on May 4 under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
