Xiaomi’s Redmi brand has officially launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India, skipping the Note 16 series entirely to bring a device built around one central promise: exceptional battery endurance. Marketed under the “mAhster Edition” branding, the smartphone positions itself as the successor to the Redmi Note 15 5G and enters a fiercely competitive mid-range segment dominated by rivals such as POCO, Realme, Motorola, Samsung, and iQOO.

Redmi has confirmed pricing for two storage configurations. The 6GB+128GB variant, originally listed at Rs 27,999, is now priced at Rs 24,999, while the top-end 8GB+128GB model is available for Rs 27,999, down from Rs 30,999. Buyers using SBI, Axis Bank, or Kotak Bank cards can claim an additional instant discount of Rs 3,000. Sales begin on August 12, 2026, through the Mi website, Amazon India, and Xiaomi retail outlets. The device comes in three colour options: Dark Knight, Arctic Blue, and Starlight Purple.
On the specifications front, the Redmi Note 17 5G houses an 8,000mAh silicon-carbon anode battery, which Xiaomi claims can deliver over three days of usage on a single charge. It supports 44W wired fast charging and 22.6W reverse wireless charging, and the company says the battery pack is engineered to retain 80 percent of its capacity even after 1,600 charge cycles, backed by what Xiaomi calls Battery Health 4.0 technology. Despite the large cell, Redmi says the phone remains one of the slimmest in its category, with a body measuring 8.44mm.
The display is a 6.9-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,800 nits of peak brightness, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour coverage, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It also supports a 240Hz touch sampling rate and an “Accurate Touch Response” feature designed to keep the screen usable with wet, oily, or soapy fingers.
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, a 4nm 5G processor paired with a graphite cooling system to manage heat during extended gaming sessions. Redmi has also brought back expandable storage support, offering up to 2TB of additional memory alongside 8GB of virtual RAM expansion. For photography, the phone features a 50MP AI-enabled rear camera with an f/1.8 lens, Ultra HD mode, dedicated night mode, and a dual-video recording mode, along with an 8MP front camera with portrait support. On the software side, the Redmi Note 17 5G runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS, featuring HyperIsland and HyperConnect tools along with Gemini AI integration. Xiaomi has committed to software support for the device until 2032, a six-year promise that stands out in the mid-range segment.
