Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has put forward five demands to the Centre following his detention during a protest linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) agitation in Delhi. The demands come amid escalating tensions between the Opposition and the government over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the police action against protesting students.
Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders, was detained during a sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. The leaders were later released.

In a video message released during his detention, Rahul Gandhi demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the controversy surrounding alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks.
His second demand was action against police personnel accused of assaulting students during Monday’s protest, along with the withdrawal of cases registered against the protesting students.
The Congress leader also sought an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the police crackdown during the protest. His fourth demand was a discussion on the issue in both Houses of Parliament.
The fifth demand focused on immediate reforms in the education and examination system to prevent paper leaks and other irregularities.

The Congress leaders’ detention came after Rahul Gandhi led a sit-in near the Prime Minister’s residence. Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi and took him to Chhatrasal Stadium, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was taken to Mandir Marg police station. Both were later released. The protest followed a major mobilisation by CJP supporters and students over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. Earlier, protesters attempting to march towards Parliament had faced police action, including the use of tear gas and batons.
Government Says It Is Ready For Discussion
The Centre has maintained that it is willing to discuss issues related to the NEET controversy and the wider concerns raised by students in Parliament. Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh met Rahul Gandhi at the protest site and said the government was prepared for a discussion. However, Singh accused the Congress leader of changing his position by moving from a demand for a parliamentary debate to calling for the resignation of the Education Minister. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also criticised Rahul Gandhi and accused the Congress of using student concerns for political purposes. He said the government had already indicated its willingness to engage in a comprehensive discussion on the issues.
Political Confrontation Likely To Continue
The dispute over the CJP protest and examination-related concerns is expected to remain a major flashpoint during the ongoing Parliament session. While the Opposition is demanding accountability, action against those responsible for the alleged police crackdown and reforms in the examination system, the government has argued that the matter should be addressed through parliamentary debate rather than street protests.
With Rahul Gandhi’s five demands now formally placed before the Centre, the confrontation between the government and the Opposition is likely to continue in Parliament.
