Prince Harry wants to stop carrying the royal family feud into the future. In a new interview, he said repairing his relationship with King Charles III and Prince William matters more than keeping old disputes alive.
The Duke of Sussex spoke to GQ’s Zach Baron in New York in late September for an interview published on October 20. Asked about his strained family relationships, Harry acknowledged the pain and made his position clear: “I want it to work out.”
Harry described family estrangement as something many people recognise in their own lives. He suggested that public interest in the royal rift partly reflects that shared experience: people dealing with difficult relationships may be watching to see whether his family can find a way forward.

He also acknowledged that repairing a relationship does not erase the hurt behind it. Even so, he said he wanted to move beyond the conflict.
One remark prompted a clarification. Harry said “some people don’t want it to work out”, but a Sussex spokesperson later said he was speaking generally and was not targeting William or another family member.
A return to Britain, with family in focus
The comments follow Harry and Meghan’s move back to Britain with their children in August, six years after leaving their roles as working royals and relocating to California. Their departure, subsequent interviews and Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, brought deeply personal disagreements into public view.
Harry said seeing his children settle into a British school had meant more to him than he anticipated. He also expressed hope for a less combative relationship with the British press, saying he wanted past disputes to stop defining what came next.
The family’s return has not restored Harry and Meghan’s official royal duties. They remain non-working royals, and the interview announced no agreement to resolve the rift. For now, Harry has publicly stated what he wants: a chance to rebuild those relationships.
