Panchkula School Assault: 8-Year-Old Boy Brutally Beats 6-Year-Old Girl, Now Out of Danger

Panchkula school assault

A six-year-old girl who was seriously injured in an alleged assault by an eight-year-old student at a government school in Panchkula, Haryana, is now out of danger. The incident, which occurred inside a classroom on October 28, has prompted a police investigation, departmental action against school staff and an inquiry into possible lapses in student supervision.

The girl is receiving treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the eight-year-old boy has been sent to an observation home in Ambala and is undergoing a psychological evaluation under the Juvenile Justice Act. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the school’s responsibility for ensuring children’s safety.

What Happened at the Panchkula School?

The incident took place at a government school in Sector 20, Panchkula, where the six-year-old kindergarten student was allegedly attacked by a boy studying in Class 3. The assault occurred inside a classroom and was captured by CCTV cameras installed on the premises.

The footage reportedly shows the girl being repeatedly struck and kicked. She sustained serious injuries and required medical attention. The incident came to light when she could not be located at the end of the school day.

They searched for her after she failed to return home as expected. Her father and uncle subsequently reached the school and found her injured inside a classroom. The family has raised questions about how the incident went unnoticed despite the presence of CCTV cameras and school staff. The incident has raised serious concerns about student supervision, emergency response procedures and the effectiveness of child-safety measures in educational institutions. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and whether any lapses contributed to the girl’s injuries.

Police Investigation, Staff Action and Psychological Evaluation

Panchkula Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the school principal, the class in-charge and a school security guard over alleged negligence. Preliminary findings reportedly indicated lapses in the school’s supervision arrangements. The Education Department has also taken disciplinary action against staff members. Two junior basic teachers were suspended, and the Haryana government subsequently suspended the school principal as the investigation progressed. The state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident, while a committee has been constituted to examine the circumstances and identify possible failures in school administration.

The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken cognisance of the case and sought a detailed report from the education authorities. The Haryana Human Rights Commission has also examined the matter. Officials are looking into the school’s supervision arrangements and the measures in place to protect students.

As the accused student is only eight years old, authorities are following the procedures prescribed under juvenile justice law. Experts are conducting a psychological evaluation to better understand the circumstances behind his alleged behaviour. Officials have indicated that further action will depend on the findings of the assessment and the ongoing investigation. The incident has renewed concerns about children’s safety in schools and the need for effective supervision, timely intervention and clear accountability. Police have also indicated plans to strengthen school-safety procedures in Panchkula. Authorities have urged the public and media organisations not to circulate videos of the incident, citing concerns about the potential psychological impact on children.
