Ritika Phogat Suicide: Ritika Phogat, Geeta-Babita Phogat’s sister, committed suicide after losing in the wrestling final match. Since then, the wrestling community has been in mourning.
Police confirmed that Ritika Phogat, 17, was upset at a minor loss of a tournament wrestling final. Between March 12 and 14, she competed at a state level in Bharatpur.
Late Monday, she was discovered dead at the home of her uncle, legendary wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Ritika had gone to a sports academy run by Mahavir Phogat, a Dronacharya award recipient.
Mahavir Phogat, was also present at the tournament, according to the records. Ritika has been training for this tournament for quite some time. She went into shock after losing in the final match, and on the night of March 15, she hanged herself with a scarf.
Ritika Phogat competed in the 53 kg division at the state level sub-junior tournament. However, she only lost by one point in the state championship finals. Ritika was so depressed by her loss that she willingly accepted death. Ritika’s death has caused a surge of sorrow in the wrestling culture.
Harvinder Phogat, the teen’s cousin, said the family was in mourning and that they have no idea how much the loss had affected her.
