Kangana Ranaut Reacts to Janhvi Kapoor’s Peddi Controversy Amid Objectification Debate

Kangana Ranaut on Peddi Controversy
Background: What Sparked the Debate

The Telugu film Peddi has found itself at the center of a growing controversy over the portrayal of actress Janhvi Kapoor’s character, which many viewers and critics have called unnecessarily sensual. The backlash grew significant enough that director Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology and committed to making revisions to the film.

Kangana’s Take: Communication Is Key on Set

Actress and sitting Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has now entered the conversation, offering her perspective on how female actors can — and should — handle such situations. Speaking to PTI, Kangana emphasized that filmmaking is a team effort and that actresses have every right to raise concerns during production.

“When you sign on for a film, multiple creative perspectives come into play,” she noted, adding that intentions are rarely malicious. In her view, no filmmaker deliberately sets out to demean or objectify an actress — which makes open dialogue on set all the more important.

“As a Woman, Your Voice Matters on Set”

Kangana went further, pointing out that people behind the camera don’t always realize how a particular shot or scene reads on screen. She encouraged actresses to trust their instincts and flag anything that feels off, suggesting that most collaborators would likely respond positively to such feedback.

She described filmmaking as a space where any woman involved can simply say — this doesn’t look right — and expect to be heard.

What’s Next for Kangana: Bharat Bhagya Vidhata

On the professional front, Kangana is gearing up for the theatrical release of her upcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, directed by Manoj Tapadia and produced under her own banner. The film casts her as a nurse who plays a heroic role during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The ensemble cast also includes Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Suhita Thatte, and Priya Berde. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 12.
