In A New Photo Shoot, Priyanka Chopra Says, “I Don’t Want To Be Defined From The Place I Come”

Priyanka Chopra’s cover of a foreign magazine was featured with a fresh look. The actress said that she came to a position in Hollywood where her culture is an asset, and not something that she is defined by.

In an interview, she confessed to being ‘shocked’, when her 28-year-old husband Nick Jonas proposed to her after just two months of dating.

“I didn’t expect the proposal at that point… It was two months! I thought it would happen, but it was still a complete shock. [But] I relinquished control and I just went with it.”

She told Elle: ‘We see each other every three weeks. Wherever we are in the world, we fly to each other at least once a month for a couple of days. It was our rule when we first got married. Otherwise, we’d never see each other.’

In December 2018, in Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace, the pair tied the knot. Through two wedding rites, one Christian and one Hindu, the celebrations lasted for three days, keeping their ethnicity in view.

Priyanka says, they work through the task of making sure that every three weeks they see each other, as their busy jobs hold them in various parts of the world.

‘In India at that stage, [especially] when you become a major actor, the auditioning process was taboo,’ she said. ‘Now, a lot has changed, but 10 years ago, auditioning wasn’t what you did.

‘But it was the culture [in Hollywood], so I had to learn this. I found that I could not sit on my laurels and that I had to go into a room and show myself and not feel entitled to people.

For Elle UK’s March issue, Priyanka shared several images from the monochrome photoshoot. She was seen paired with a trench coat and messy short hair in a black leotard. She was seen posing in one of the pics in a two-piece crop top and trousers, and knee-high boots, while the other showed her in an oversized trench coat striking a pose.

The actor, who on a global scale has effectively represented the South Asian community, has made it clear what she is looking for. In an interview with Elle, she said, “I came in and I said, ‘I don’t mind putting my head down, working, auditioning, learning how to speak in an American accent.’ I wanted to play parts. I don’t want to be defined by where I come from. I want to play leads.”
