On Wednesday, the House executives who are investigating the US Senate case spent more time recounting the circumstances that lead to the riot highlighting the danger to the vice president of Mike Pence Trumps.

Mr. Trump’s attorneys have claimed that by calling last November’s presidential election invalid, he was using his right to freedom of speech. In the equally divided 100-seat Senate, a two-thirds vote is needed to convict Mr. Trump, but an acquittal looks possible as the vast majority of Republican senators have remained loyal to him so far. However, once Mr. Trump was sentenced, the Senate may still vote to prohibit him once again from seeking political office. The deadly riot at the Capitol of the United States, which saw five people losing their lives, was an effort by Trump backers to avoid certifying the election outcome.
