A Patna civil court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, in connection with a case related to an alleged firing incident at his coaching institute earlier this month.
The court’s order comes days after Khan Sir was named in a First Information Report (FIR) registered following violence and vandalism at the Khan Global Studies Institute in Patna’s Musallahpur area. The development provides temporary relief to the educator while legal proceedings in the matter continue.
The case stems from an incident on June 2, when a group of people allegedly entered the premises of the coaching institute, vandalised property and clashed with security personnel. Initial reports of gunfire triggered a large police response and led to heightened tensions in the city’s prominent coaching hub.
According to police, two security guards employed at the institute were arrested after investigators found evidence suggesting that shots had been fired during the confrontation. Authorities subsequently expanded the probe and named Khan Sir in the FIR, alleging his involvement in the incident.
Seeking protection from arrest, Khan Sir approached the court through his legal team and filed an anticipatory bail plea. During the hearing, his counsel argued that the educator had been implicated unfairly and described the case as an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
“The FIR has been registered as part of a conspiracy to defame my client,” Khan Sir’s lawyer told reporters after the court proceedings.
Police officials, however, have maintained that the investigation is being conducted based on available evidence and witness statements. Senior officers have stated that all aspects of the case are being examined and that legal action will be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
The controversy is linked to an ongoing rivalry between coaching institutes operating in Patna’s Musallahpur educational district. The dispute intensified in recent months amid competing claims over examination results and student success rates, according to reports and accounts from individuals associated with the coaching sector.
Investigators are also examining whether the June 2 violence was connected to previous tensions between supporters and staff members of rival coaching centres. Both sides have accused each other of instigating unrest, while police continue to verify the claims.
In the days following the incident, protests were reported outside coaching centres in the area, prompting authorities to deploy additional police personnel to maintain law and order. The incident has drawn significant public attention due to Khan Sir’s popularity among competitive examination aspirants across the country.
While the court’s latest order shields Khan Sir from immediate arrest, it does not bring the investigation to a close. The case remains under active examination, and authorities are expected to continue collecting evidence, reviewing CCTV footage and recording statements from those involved.
The matter is likely to return to court as proceedings on the anticipatory bail plea and the broader investigation move forward. For now, Khan Sir has received temporary legal relief, while the police probe into the firing and vandalism allegations continues.
