Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, clearing the path for Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to take charge as the next Chief Minister of the state.
An official communication from Lok Bhavan confirmed that the Governor accepted Mr. Siddaramaiah’s resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers led by him. Until the swearing-in of the new government, Siddaramaiah will continue as caretaker Chief Minister.

Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar is expected to be formally elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party before taking oath as Karnataka’s next Chief Minister. Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar are expected to meet Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath in Delhi to finalise the cabinet structure and discuss the appointment of the next Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.
A Congress Legislative Party meeting is also likely to be convened soon after the final cabinet decisions are made.
